" Sailboats at anchor " Pair of watercolors forming a pendant, 34 x 19.5 cm (at sight). On the back are handwritten mentions on the two watercolors "Gift of Madeleine Brohan - Watercolor executed by HRH the Prince of Joinville". His Royal Highness François d'Orléans (1818-1900) son of King Louis Philippe Ier. He was a soldier and left delicate watercolors of French towns. Known as a gambler, he put down his watch to honor a gambling debt. A little ashamed, he then claimed to have forgotten it at his aunt's house, hence the expression "my aunt" to describe the Mont-de- Devotion.
