"Oil on canvas of 1971, 46 x 38 cm, monogrammed in bottom on the right "O D" and signed, titled and dated (April 1971) on the back on the canvas. Provenance : Acquired by the present owner in 1992. A major painter of lyrical abstraction, he was admitted to the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1937, after the aesthetic shock of Picasso's Guernica. In 1949, after his first solo exhibition at Samuel Bing's Paris gallery, he became one of the leading figures of the Ecole de Paris. Olivier Debré is the grandson of the painter Edouard Debat-Ponsan, the son of Professor Robert Debré whose Parisian hospital bears his name, and the brother of Michel Debré, General de Gaulle's first minister.
