- "I go a little better and grinds less black ... " January 17, 1905.
- "Einville has been invaded, my mother's house robbed and hit by a shell. And you? your poor Reims. This way of imposing its "Kuldur" is I fear the work of madmen... As for me, I had joined the Red Cross from the beginning... As for Art at home it is moribund." October 20, 1914 (He signed his artist's name which will be definitive: Paul-Emile COLIN.
- Here are some months that I did not take 2 hours of rest. It is crazy. But what a work if I have the luck to succeed. I call it a lyrical work parallel to the works of the musicians...". July 29, 1917.
- "Only one thing has really got to me, and that is the expulsion of the Lorrainers. Bisping is empty. The dead alone guard it: Our house, what does it matter, but these people driven out without any resources from their houses, from their lands ah...! Then my spirit rises, I feel transported to the sources of energy and hope... "January 5, 1941.
