Fernand MAILLAUD (1862-1948) - Lot 31
Fernand MAILLAUD (1862-1948) Exceptional lot of 55 letters to Emile SEDEYN, (41) from Fernand Maillaud and (14) from his wife. Fernand Maillaud evokes his anguish as an artist, his rejection of Paris, of commerce, of upstarts and of his sufferings during the two world wars: "I thank you from the bottom of my heart my dear Sedeyn for wanting to be my friend. For you are indispensable to me and I love you" undated letter. "I let myself go... I let myself be guided by I don't know what God... if I have great anguish in front of a white canvas. If the torment grips me for whole days at the idea of resuming a session... it happens that by a miracle a ½ hour after work, as with so many anxieties, I am bereft, protected and I let myself go, I let myself be guided in a great joy." Letter dated February 1, 1940 "Poor France! Here the dead are very, very numerous, one sees only poor women in mourning capotes crying. The masses of the dead every day are poignant, we are heartbroken... I never lie in bed without remorse. And I think of the others who so courageously endure so much suffering! "Letter of January 5, 1915. Delivery of the lots without expenses in Paris, Lyon or Marseille several days after the sale or the sending at the expense of the buyer by the carrier of his choice.
