NGUYEN VAN RO (1921-1997) - Lot 125
NGUYEN VAN RO (1921-1997) VIETNAM: “The rice harvest”. Red and gold lacquered wooden panel with eggshell applications, dimensions 20 x 29 cm at sight (41 x 51 cm with frame) signed lower right. This work by the Vietnamese Nguyen Van Ro demonstrates his extraordinary mastery of lacquer, with gold leaves placed in swirls on the water around these women who transplant the rice bunch by bunch. Like those who harvest it in the movement of the golden rods. The eggshells placed on the hats and bodies illuminate and warm the work. Professor at the Gia Dinh School of Fine Arts, in the South of Vietnam between 1955 and 1975, Nguyen Van Rô is one of the few great Vietnamese lacquer masters who stayed in Vietnam during and after the War of Independence to teach and train other lacquer painters. Provenance: Acquired by Mr. Gilbert BOUVERET Director of the Bank of Indochina in Saigon from 1950 to 1958. Delivery of the lots without transport costs to Paris (rue Drouot), Lyon or Marseille a few days after the sale or dispatch at the buyer's expense by the carrier of their choice.
