RUGS - TIBET (1900-1930)
Thick wool carpet hand-woven and knotted in Tibet, beautifully decorated with a dragon chasing the flaming pearl, surrounded by scrolling clouds and Lishui (beautiful primordial waters) from which emerge the three sacred peaks. The dragon is the guardian of sacred values, pursuing the luminous pearl, symbol of happiness, abundance, wisdom and knowledge for its owner.
Good condition. Dimensions: 170 x 92 cm.
Provenance: Sandro VOLTA Collection (1900-1986) and descendants.
Sandro VOLTA was a writer, journalist and art collector, who wrote the preface to his friend Tristan Tzara's "Manifeste du dadaïsme". Part of his collection was sold by Maître Rheims at Hôtel Drouot on May 16 and 17, 1957. From 1925 to 1932, he was a correspondent for the newspaper LA STAMPA in China and Tibet.
