RUGS - TIBET (1900-1930) Thick, hand-woven and hand-knotted wool saddle cloth from Tibet, richly decorated with two tigers amid bamboo. Placed between the saddle and the horse, the rug softened the weight of the saddle and protected the horse from the cold. Good condition. 86 x 44 cm. Provenance: Sandro VOLTA Collection (1900-1986) and descendants. Sandro VOLTA was a writer, journalist and art collector, who wrote the preface to his friend Tristan Tzara's "Manifeste du dadaïsme". Part of his collection was sold by Maître Rheims at Hôtel Drouot on May 16 and 17, 1957. From 1925 to 1932, he was a correspondent for the newspaper LA STAMPA in China and Tibet.
